Our Lady of the Cape is the title of the Virgin Mary of Quebec, Canada. The title specifically refers to the statue of the Virgin currently located in the old temple. Pope Pius X crowned the exalted figure on October 12, 1904, and Pope Pius XII again crowned the icon on August 15, 1954. A deep Marian dedication has existed at Our Lady of the Cape since 1694. And founded the Rosary Brotherhood under the leadership of Father Paul Vachon. In 1720, Father Vachon built a small stone church to replace the earlier wooden structure. Father Vachon died in 1729 and was buried in the church. Without a resident priest, the parish declined. The bishop did not ordain priests until 1845. Leandre Tourigny became the resident pastor of the settlement. In 1867, under the leadership of Father Luc Desilets, the love for Mary was renewed. He was disappointed after he saw a pig from a nearby farm inside the church chewing some rosary beads left by pilgrims, Father. Desilets vowed to dedicate himself to the Virgin and rededicate the rosary to his parishioners.
