At an early age, Padre Pio made up his mind to devote his whole life to God

Padre Pio’s original name was Francesco Forgione, he was born in Pietrina, a small town in southern Italy. He was admitted to capuchin Franciscans on 22 January 1903 and took the name “Biot”. Padre Pio died at St. John Rotondo on September 23, 1968, at the age of 81. He was canonized as a saint by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002. Father Biot’s anniversary is September 23. Saint Padre Pio was born on May 25, 1887, in Pietrercina, near Benevento in southern Italy. His father, Grazio Mario Forgione, was a self-supporting farmer, and his mother, Maria Giuseppa Di Nunzio Forgione, was a forgiving woman. Baby Pio was baptized in the town’s Santa Anna Chapel under the name of Francis. He helped his parents farm, but his duties were mainly sheep herding, and his education was delayed for a few years. At the age of five, Francis is said to have made up his mind to devote his whole life to God, and even at that age began a strenuous penance. You can take a look at the Saint Padre Pio Statue.

As a child, Francis often experienced godliness and ecstasy

As a child, Francis often experienced godliness and ecstasy. After completing three years of public primary and secondary education in 1897 at the age of 10, Francis felt a calling from God and was drawn to the simple life of a monk. After he expressed his desire to be monastic to his parents, they took the child to visit the Capuchin Franciscan convent in Morcone, 13 miles (21 km) north of Pietrelcina, to find out if Francis could be ordained. The missionaries say they are willing to accept Francis, but not until he has more education. To help pay for his education, Francis’ father sought work in the United States to give Francis more academic education. On September 27, 1899, the prescriptions received the sacrament of confirmation. The prescription then passed the educational requirements set by the previous order. On January 6, 1903, at the age of 15, Francis joined the Capuchin Franciscan order, received the order’s robes, became a novice friar, took the name Fra Pio, and took vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience. There is much speculation as to why the name was chosen, but it is generally accepted that it is in honor of Pope Saint Pius I, whose reliquaries were found in the Chapel of Saint Annes, where Pio was baptized. Today, the Saint Padre Pio Statue is one of the most popular religious sculptures. We also have many other religious sculptures on our home page. If you are interested in it, welcome to contact us.
