One of the twelve saints of Jesus, After Jesus ascended into heaven, Bartholomew took Matthew to Preach in India. Legend has it that he was crucified and martyred while preaching in Armenia. Some say they were skinned and martyred by thugs while preaching in India.
His sculptures are usually holding a skinning knife and a book in his hand, and wearing the skin of a person or holding it in his hand.
