The statue of Our Lady of La Salette is popular with people
On September 19, 1851, the local bishop officially approved a public dedication and prayer to our Lady of Lazarette. On August 21, 1879, Pope Leo XIII conferred a coronation on the image now located in the Basilica of Our Lady of Lazarette. Russian-style headdresses were presented in images, rather than the solar-style headdresses traditionally used during the incarnation of the Virgin. Places outside France dedicated to our Lady of Lazarette include the sanctuary of Oliveira de Azemeis in Portugal, the National Shrine in Attleboro, Massachusetts, and the shrine in Enfield, New Hampshire. Both are famous for their Christmas lights, and a small church in SAN Miguel de Allende, in the Mexican state of Guanajuato. The statue of Our Lady of La Salette is popular with people.

In 1846, The village of La Salette was made up of eight or nine small scattered villages. The population is about 800, mainly small farmers and their families and dependents. On the evening of Saturday, September 19, 1846, Maximine Giro and Melanie Calva returned from the hill where they had been caring for their cows and reported seeing “a beautiful lady” on Sous-Les Basses, crying her eyes out. They described her sitting with her elbows on her knees and her face in her hands. She wore a white robe studded with pearls and a golden apron. She wore white shoes and roses on her feet, and a tall headdress. She wore a cross on a small chain around her neck. According to them, even when she spoke to them, she continued to cry, first in French and then in their own Occitan dialect. ] After giving each child a secret, the ghost walked up a hill and disappeared.
