From the Bible and early Church historians, we know few other facts about Luke’s life

Luke, the author of the gospels and Acts, is known as “Luke the dear Doctor” of St. Paul. From the Bible and early Church historians, we know few other facts about Luke’s life. It is believed that Luke was a Greek and a gentile. Colossians 10-14 talks about the friends who were with him. He first mentions all those who are “circumcised” — in other words, jews — and he doesn’t include Luke in this group. The Gospel of Luke shows a special sensitivity to evangelizing to Gentiles. Only in his Gospel do we hear the parable of the Good Samaritan, we hear Jesus praising the faith of the Gentiles, such as the widow of Zarephath and Naaman the Syrian, and we hear the story of a grateful leper who was a Samaritan. He was born in Antioch, Syria, according to the early Church historian Eusebius Luke. The St Luke statue is very popular with people.

But scholars believe Luke may have been born a slave

In our day and age, it’s easy to think of a doctor as rich. But scholars believe Luke may have been born a slave. It is not uncommon for families to provide medical education to slaves so that they have a resident family doctor. Not only do we have the words of Paul, but also Eusebius, St. Jerome, St. Iannius, and the second-century writer Caius all refer to Luke as a physician. We have to go to acts to follow the trail of Luke’s Christian ministry. We don’t know anything about his conversion, but looking at the language of Acts, we can see where he joined St. Paul. The stories of Acts are written in the third person, as historians record the facts, up to chapter xVI. In Acts 16:8-9, we hear Paul’s companions, “So they went through Mysia and went down to Troas. During the night Paul had a vision: a Man of Macedonia stood up and pleaded with him, “Come to Macedonia and help us.” Then suddenly “they” becomes “we” in 16:10: “When he saw the vision, we immediately tried to cross over Macedonia, believing that God had called us to announce the good news to them.” So Luke first joined Paul at Troas and went with him into Macedonia about 51. First to Samotra, then to Neapolis, and finally to Philippi. Luke goes back to a third person, which seems to indicate that he wasn’t put in prison with Paul, and when Paul left Philippi, Luke stayed there to encourage the church. These saints made a very important contribution to the spread of religion. The St Luke statue is one of the most popular statues of saints today. We also have many other saint sculptures and famous religious sculptures. If you are interested in it, welcome to contact us.
