After this discovery, everyone began to pray before the Our Lady of Miracles image was rediscovered and several miracles occurred over the next few days. Then since 1547, our Lady of Miracles Statue has become the patron saint of Alcamo, replacing the crucified saint who was the patron saint of Alcamo and other nearby towns, including Calatavimi and Salmi. However, the memory of the old patron saint lives on in the minds of the Alcamo people: in fact, they call San Francisco di Paola Cantu Patri (which translates to “patron saint”) because the church named after Our Lady of Miracles is called the Church of the Holy Cross.
