Temptation of Christ

Religious Bronze Famous Life-Size Outdoor Temptation of Christ

The temptation of Christ is a biblical narrative detailed in Matthew, Mark, and Luke. After being baptized by John the Baptist, Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights in the desert of Judah and was tempted by the devil. At that time, Satan came to Jesus and tried to tempt him. Jesus rejected every temptation, Satan left, and Jesus returned to Galilee to begin his ministry. Jesus had been fasting throughout the spiritual war. We have the sculpture of the temptation of Christ for you to choose from.

The author of Hebrews also notes that Jesus was “tempted in every way except sin.” Mark’s account was very brief, noting only the incident. Matthew and Luke describe temptation by telling details of a conversation between Jesus and Satan. Since the elements of Matthew and Luke that do not contain Mark are mostly paired citations rather than detailed narratives, many scholars believe that these additional details originated in the theoretical Q document. The Gospel of John does not explicitly mention Christ’s temptation, but in this Gospel, Jesus does speak of the devil, “the king of this world,” having no power over him. In the ecclesiastic calendars of many Christian denominations, Jesus fasted for forty days in the Desert of Judah is remembered during lent, when many Christians fast, pray, and give relief to the poor. Discussion of literary genres includes whether they represent history, fable, myth, or a complex of genres. It has to do with the reality of the encounter. Sometimes, the narrative of temptation is used as a parable, reading that Jesus tells the story to his audience in the form of a parable about his inner experience in his ministry. Or it could be autobiographical, about what kind of messiah Jesus intended to be. Take a look at our sculpture of the temptation of Christ, more Jesus sculptures are waiting for you to choose from.
