The production of our lady of peace statue:
In August 1980, John Sweeny, pastor of The Church of Our Lady of Peace in Santa Clara, California, realized a long-standing wish to present a special honor to the Our Lady of Peace Statue. That month, he commissioned the renowned sculptor Charles C. Parks of Wilmington, Del., to design a 32-foot stainless steel statue to which he would name our Lady of Peace Statue. Thus began an extraordinary Odyssey to a truly extraordinary image of our Lady of Peace Statue, the Mother of God. After a few models, the masterpiece began. It was built outdoors, on the lawn of the artist’s studio. It generated so much interest and attracted so many visitors — day and night — that wilmington’s mayor invited the sculptor to publicly display it downtown. Many pilgrims come from distant cities to see our Lady of Peace Statue and pray.

Our lady of peace statue’s rosary and civic rites:
The Our Lady of Peace Statue was blessed and consecrated by Bishop Pierre Dumaine of the Diocese of San Jose in Santa Clara, California. The ceremony took place on October 7, 1983, at the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary. Mr. Sweeny thinks the date is important. The date marks the 15th anniversary of the start of the parish’s all-night vigil on the first Friday of every month. Pope John Paul II gave a special blessing on the dedication. For three days from October 7 to 9, religious and civic ceremonies and public thanks will be held at the foot of our Lady of Peace Statue. During the last service on Sunday, October 9, C.S.C. of the Family Rosary Crusade Father Patrick Payton delivered the sermon. Our Lady of Peace Statue is the only major Marian shrine on the West Coast, located between our Lady of Peace Statue in Portland, Oregon, and the famous Basilica of Our Lady of Peace in Guadalupe, Mexico City.
